After a dominant and victorious performance at home to Newbury last Saturday, Uhlsport Hellenic side Kidlington travel to Thatcham FC this Saturday as they look to maintain their challenge for the Hellenic Premier Division League title, k.o. is 3:00 pm
Thatcham have been in indifferent form this season, after winning 5 or their first 6 league matches they drooped off the pace dramatically and in the earlier match between the sides at Yarnton Road Kidlington won 5 - 1, Kidlington's scorers that day were Charlie Cassettari, Tommy Castle(2), RyanCurtin, James McGowan, Chris Weedon with Gary Thomas netting for the visitors.
Kidlington will not be expecting such an easy ride this time about as Thatchham have been rejuvenated of late and were desperately unlucky to lose against a good Ascot side last weekend. Their recent 2-0 victory against an in form Thame side a fortnight earlier proves Thatcham can beat the stronger teams in the division.
In comments after the Newbury match, Kidlington Manager Martin Wilkinson said:
“Last Saturday was a terrific team effort and I thought the performance on the pitch was as professional as it gets at this level. I spoke before the game about aspects of our play that could be better and the players responded superbly. We changed a number of things around and we discussed some key elements of our play before the game but in the end players have to deliver the goods on the pitch and that’s exactly what the lads did. It was a very pleasing performance for everyone involved.”
Kidlington sit second in the division just behind Highmoor Ibis, Flackwell and Thame are well positioned in 3rd and 4th respectively and both have a number of games in hand over the top two sides. In comments regarding his Team’s Championship push, Wilkinson said:
“Our focus as a team will not change. We will continue to respect each and every opponent and we will plan for each fixture accordingly. If results of other games go our way, then so be it but my job is to ensure my Team performs to the best of its ability. I fully expect a number of surprising results for those teams still in contention but worrying about other teams other than our immediate opponents is not something I do. Quite simply, there is still a long way to go before matters are decided so let’s see what happens.
