Manager Julian McCalmon was able to bring new signing Lewis Gabbidon straight into the starting line up because of the unavailability of striker Mark Janes, but Janes' absence certainly looked to have a destabilising effect on the the overall pattern of the team and the way it played.

When the match got underway the hosts, playing down the slope, took the game to the visitors and soon had the lead. A ball over the top of the Kidlington back line caused a major problem, but the danger seemed to have been averted, however Ben Willoughby, racing back to help, was adjudged to have committed a fouled on the edge of the box. Aylesbury's recent signing Max Hercules took it and clipped the ball over the wall and into the top right hand corner of the goal for 1 - 0.

On 9 minutes Kidlington keeper Sam Warrell made a very good save to prevent Tre Mitford making it 2 - 0, the striker left the Kidlington back line completely flat footed before shooting for goal. Then as the half progressed Kidlington began to get more into the match and drew level on 17 minutes. It was youngster Josh Tooke who fired the ball home from close range after a corner kick into the home sides box wasn't cleared, Tooke reacted well and blasted the ball home.

On 19 minutes it looked like Aylesbury were going to retake the lead, only for Ben Willoughby, perhaps redeeming himself, seemingly came from nowhere to intercept a goal bound shot and deflect it behind for a corner.

On 29 minutes the hosts did retake the lead. Another long ball over the top was misjudged by Tommy Franklin, this allowed Tre Mitford to dart in behind him and take the ball. Mitford had a free run on goal and as Warrell came out to narrow the angle the striker skillfully knocked the ball past him and into the net for 2 - 1.

Kidlington calved out a decent chance for Anaclet Odhiambo in the 37th minute. A cross in from the right saw the little striker dive full length to connect with the ball, but his header passed the wrong side of the upright.

Aylesbury came on strongly in the last few minutes of the half, firstly in the 39th minute as Kidlington's high back line was again caught out by the ball over the top. It was striker Mitford who again raced onto it, he looked odds on to score, until Warrell made an absolutely superb one handed save to deny him.Then just for good measure in the 41st minute Warrell repeated the feat, this time turning Mitford's shot brilliantly round the far post for a corner.

Kidlington must have been the more grateful of the two sides to hear the half time whistle, they really had been under some serious pressure in the last few minutes of the half and it would give them a chance to re-group.

After the second half started it was Kidlington now with the advantage of kicking down the slope. This certainly seemed to have equaled the game out a bit and Elliott Osborn-Ricketts came mighty close to restoring parity on 50 minutes. Elliott-Ricketts beat a couple of players on the left side, he turned and hit a fierce dipping shot, the ball looked like it may well loop over keeper Jack Hopwood, but a back peddling Hopwood got fingertips to it to push the ball over the bar.

On 62 minutes the tables were turned again. An Aylesbury player was adjudged to have been fouled by Jack Bermasconi in the box and a penalty was awarded. Ollie Hogg took it and Warrell made another fantastic save, this time diving full length to his right to palm the ball to safety.

After this action the game began to get a bit messy with a spate of bookings and both sides making their substitutions.

Kidlington were having an awful lot more possession of the ball in this second half but other than the earlier Osborn-Ricketts effort were not able to calve out any other decent attempt on goal. Late on there was time for one more excellent save from Kidlington's man of the match Sam Warrell. Aylesbury substitute Harry Jones with a good shot from about 20 yards saw Warrell again dive to push the ball away from goal.

In the dying moments Skipper Warrell came down the pitch to try and help force an equaliser from a late corner, but to no avail and therefore The Greens tasted defeat by this narrow margin. However it could have been a larger one, but for Warrell's heroics between the sticks as Kidlington without the focal point of Mark Janes up front never looked like a side capable of winning this game.
