Craig McKay made the one change to his starting eleven for this afternoon’s fixture, as Dec Shepperd replaced Alex Costa.
New signing Billy Shephard missed the deadline, which unfortunately meant he had to watch from Yarton Road’s stands.
Match Report
A action packed first few minutes saw a Kidlington penalty call denied by Referee Adam Gregory and a goal for Yate confusingly turned around the Ref and his assistant referee, David Evans.
Quick feet from Cheyce Grant allowed him to get away from his man before another Yate defender stepped across Cheyce bringing him down. Unfortunately, Adam Gregory didn’t think there was enough contact for Cheyce to go down resulting in the Ref waving the play on.
What would come 2 minutes later was truly confusing for everyone involved in the fixture.
Yate Town’s Lucas Tomlinson would attempt to run onto the ball from an offside position, however, after receiving the call by his teammate Will Christopher, Tomlinson would leave the ball to Christopher. Asst Referee, David Evans raised his flag immediately, but Referee Adam Gregory dismissed Evans call and played the game on. The Assistant Referee remained unmoved from his position and kept his flag raised. The Ref, noticing the raised flag, moved over for a lengthy discussion. After a few minutes, Adam Gregory decided to change his initial decision and chose David Evans’s as the correct one. After all that controversy it remained level at 0-0. Kidlington skipper, Jack Smith, was booked during this incident due to the way he spoke to Gregory.
In the 11th minute, the play was stopped due to a head collision between Marlon Jackson and Ben Richards. Both received treatment and were fortunately able to continue.
The controversy would continue as Adam Gregory would point to the spot for a Yate penalty after Joe Guest’s theatrical antics in the Kidlington’s box won the referee’s decision.
Marlon Jackson would make no mistake putting Yate 1-0 up.
The game restarted after crowd incident and Kidlington started to play better football. A few dangerous crosses from John Dennis, Conor Taylor and Charlie Bacon invited our attacking players to put the ball in the net, unfortunately they were unable to convert.
Half-time came as Craig McKay made his first change of the afternoon with skipper Jack Smith coming off for Abe Davies-Small.
A few minutes after the Half-time restart, a Yate Free-kick was flicked on by Joe Guest which sailed its way into Marlon Jackson as he finished for his second of the afternoon.
Our best chance came when John Dennis played a beautiful ball into the path of Charlie Bacon who delivered the cross into Felix Robertson. Unfortunately, Felix couldn’t keep his effort down as it went over the bar.
Marlon Jackson had the chance to get his hattrick but Kidlington defender, Ben Richards had other ideas. The ball was bouncing around the Kidlington box with the Yate attacker striking it towards the net. Luckily Ben Richards had retreated on to the line to deflect the effort away from goal.
However, a few minutes later, Yate would get their 3rd of the afternoon as Marlon Jackson would turn to assist Lucas Tomlinson who would slot it home.
The next few minutes were all Tom Carter as he denied every attempt Yate threw at him. James Byrne had Yate’s first attempt to break Carter’s net but a quick save denied him and Carter pushed it out for a corner ball. The next attempt would come from that corner, as Lloyd James would deliver a perfect ball onto the foot of Marlon Jackson. Carter flung himself in front of the ex EFL bagsman to stop Yate scoring a 4th.
A foul on Carter wouldn’t be picked up by Adam Gregory as Yate scored their 4th of the game. Marlon Jackson dragged Carter down, making him unable to punch the ball clear. The ball would then be volleyed into Carter’s net by Yate captain Joe Guest.
Next up we head to Thame United on Bank Holiday Monday in search of 3 points.
