Match Report | Kidlington 1-1 Hertford Town

Edward Carter31 Aug 2024 - 21:49

John Dennis’ goal for Kidlington was not enough to claim all three points this afternoon, as Kidlington drew 1-1 to Hertford Town at Yarnton Road.

Team News

Following our Bank Holiday Monday defeat away at Thame United, Craig McKay made one change to the side that started at the ASM Stadium. With Fraser Allen coming in to replace Felix Robertson, with the young striker looking to open his account for Kidlington.

Unfortunately, Billy Shephard and Dec Shepperd both missed out on the Matchday squad due to unavailability.

Match Report

John Dennis added to his Kidlington goal tally, as he equalised for Kidlington to draw 1-1 against Hertford Town.

Kidlington began the game with a brilliant link up down our left-side, as Cheyce Grant and Conor Taylor both created chances that threaten Purdue’s goal. With Taylor’s chance asking the Hertford shot stopper to parry the ball out for a Kidlington corner.

10 minutes later, Hertford Town had their own chances as Mardell-Smith headed The Blues ahead.

On 17 minutes, Kidlington responded excellently through John Dennis’ slotting the ball into the back of Hertford Town’s net. A quick give and go between JD and Charlie Bacon, opened up the Hertford’s defence, with John Dennis running through on goal and equalising.

Kidlington continued the pressure and Dan Purdue was called into action to deny Cheyce Grant. Some fantastic passing between Conor Taylor, Charlie Bacon and Cheyce Grant, allowed the space for Cheyce to strike the ball on the edge of the box. His shot just wide!

A minute before time, it was all eyes on Tom Carter as Hertford Town came forward. Hertford Town’s goalscorer, Mardell-Smith, had space to take on a strike and did. His shot looked to go in, but a flying Tom Carter flicked it onto the bar, with Jack Smith heading it wide. Another world class save from the Kidlington shot stopper!

In the second half, Kidlington continued where they left off as Abe Davies-Small delivered a perfect ball into the box, but no-one was able to connect with the cross. Cheyce Grant then turned his man in style, but a last ditch challenge denied the ball of going any further towards Purdue’s net.

Charlie Bacon was the next man to be denied by Dan Purdue, as his foot pushed it away from his bottom corner.

Lewis Middleton then ventured forward, twisting and turning until his rocket of a shot rocked the bar. Kidlington were getting seriously close to the lead.

In the 80th minute, an altercation between the Kidlington and Hertford Town benches’ erupted. Once the referee finally got hold of proceedings, a straight red card was shown to Assistant Manager Lloyd Owers for his role in the altercation.

In the last minute of the game, Zarius Edwards-Giraud received the ball on the edge of the box who shot towards goal and looked certain to score. However, the Hertford Town defence were resilient and forced Kidlington to settle for the point.
