Match Preview | Kidlington v Welwyn Garden City

Match Preview | Kidlington v Welwyn Garden City

Edward Carter9 Oct 2024 - 10:43

After 10 days between this fixture and Kidlington’s defeat against AFC Dunstable, we welcome Welwyn Garden City to Yarnton Road this Saturday.

It’s been a disappointing start to the season for Kidlington as The Greens have only picked up one point in 7 matches. Craig McKay will look to kick start Kidlington’s season with a victory against Welwyn Garden City, who have had a decent start to their campaign.

The Opposition

Welwyn Garden City, who are situated in the county of Hertfordshire, achieved status of step 4 football 6 years ago. A brilliant 2017/18 season resulted in The Citizens winning the league championship and bringing only their second title for the club at this level. However, disappointment came as they were defeated in the Hertfordshire FA Charity Shield, their sixth defeat in nine finals.

Marc Weatherstone has got Welwyn Garden City rocking in step 4 this season with victories over Real Bedford, Thame United and Ware resulting in the Hertfordshire outfit being placed in 5th. Unfortunately; defeat to Stotfold stopped their advancement towards the top of the table, with them 4 points behind league leaders Hadley. Goalscoring hasn’t been a problem for WGC as Bailey Stevenson has been in fine form. The Citizens’ striker has scored 8 in their last 9 fixtures with also midfielder Lewis Taaffe chipping in too.

Welwyn Garden City will look to bounce back after their defeat to Stotfold as they make the trip to Yarnton Road to face Kidlington in the Southern League Division One Central.

Team News

Kidlington continue to work hard on getting members of the First Team ready for Matchdays with it seeming like our injury crisis is coming to an end. Sam Jenkins has completed two fixture now since his return on the 28th September. Dineen Hollifield-Meegan has also been featuring recently with the First Team training as he continues to work on his rehabilitation from injury. Billy Sheperd and Brad Walker are yet to return to league action.

Last Time We Met Welwyn Garden City

6 months ago, The Citizen’s turned Kidlington over at Herns Way and Yarnton Road as they defeated us 2-0 on both occasions.
