Kidlington wanting more forward despite clean sheet

Kidlington wanting more forward despite clean sheet

Kidlington FC 0-0 Amersham Town

After a triumphant away win at the weekend, Kidlington FC welcomed Amersham Town to Yarnton Road on a cold Wednesday night.

The game kicked off and the game became dominated by long balls, with both sides trying to find a chance over the top of the opposing defense. However Kidlington were very defensively strong, with some key challenges from Latham Hawkins and Mark Flanagan to keep the ball away from the danger area.

As the rain began to come early on, Fraser Allen put a fantastic cross in to meet the head of Lewis Gabbidon which just skimmed past the wrong side of the post.

The match then broke into a stalemate, neither side managing to capitalise on a few loose balls that were being given away, not helped by the extreme showers developing late on in the first half.

The second half looked to improve matters: some extra tempo would’ve definitely been demanded, but the story of the first half continued into the second as the game became very cagey.

Perhaps the only noticeable chance in OX5 was a neat ball over the top again provided another heading opportunity, this time met by Hawkins but again was narrowly wide.

The game continued as some controversial decisions left Kidlington frustrated throughout, especially with chances not coming often. A shot on target was managed by Mason Courtney but met the gloves of the keeper midway through the interval.

On reflection, the backline proved to remain consistent despite the current countless injuries, but still missing that cutting edge going forward.

It was a night of whether your glass is half full or half empty, a sixth clean sheet and just one goal conceded in the previous four.

Overall, a difficult night for everyone as three points would’ve definitely been wanted, but Amersham Town did enough to leave with a singular point.
