On a day which had slow starts to open both intervals, Kidlington fell to a one-goal defeat at the hand of league leaders Burnham.
Funny enough, these two sides met in the reverse fixture just five weeks prior, yes both fixtures have been played in the opening seven weeks of the new season… bonkers. In the Reverse fixture Burnham ventured out 1-0 winners in similar fashion to today’s outing.
A game which failed to flow freely for both sides - except Burnham found a way in halfway through the first half from the penalty spot. Kidlington also had an opportunity from twelve-yards but failed to convert in the latter stages.
Little action in front of goal left both sides looking to pick something out of nothing - a moment of magic. That magic would come from the penalty spot however: Captain Latham Hawkins brought down an onrushing attacker and the Referee pointed to the penalty spot, before Brown converted sending Charlie Barnett the other way - making it two from two against Kidlington having scored in the reverse fixture.
Kidlington saw the half out and came to life in the second, but the cutting edge in the final third deflated the side who just couldn’t force the net to ripple.
Kauan and Adam Smith did what they do best and looked to cause trouble along with attacks from the wide areas via Dani Lucas and Patrick Osborne but it just wouldn’t fall for them.
Just when you thought that moment of magic was upon us, the rabbit remained in the hat and the magic dusted away. Otis Castle took a tumble inside the danger area and blew for a second penalty of the match - up stepped Rhys King but his penalty failed to find the corner and the Keeper palmed away. Golden chance.
Fulltime and the game was concluded, a first defeat at Yarnton Road in 2025/26 but a game which many positives can be taken from against the league favourites.
