Match Preview: Kidlington FC v Wokingham Town

WORDS BY SAM RATHBONE

After a long two weeks away from home, Kidlington are back at Yarnton Road as they host Wokingham Town on Saturday. Last time out, Kidlington were held to a goalless draw away at Wallingford & Crowmarsh, despite constant pressure from both sides throughout the game. Ultimately with that result, Kidlington will be both disappointed and pleased with a point against a play-off contender side of Wallingford & Crowmarsh. They will look to get the ball in the back of the net as they face Wokingham United in OX5. Last time out in OX5, Kidlington beat Ashford Town in the 2nd Qualifying Round of the Isuzu FA Vase Trophy. A Luke Elliot own goal, gave Kiddy the lead on the edge of half-time, Aydin Ulas scored to double the host’s lead, and even a consolation goal from Ashford in the 90+3rd minute was cancelled out by Joey Aust (95’) as Kidlington advanced to the next round of the Isuzu FA Vase Trophy.

Wokingham Town, who sit mid-table in the Combined Counties League Premier Division North, will need to improve for their away clash at Yarnton Road as they fell to a 6-3 defeat as they hosted Virginia Water at Lowther Road in the midweek fixture. After going two-nil down at the interval, Wokingham thought the storm was over before an early second half goal wrapped all three points up for the visitors. Sam Lynskey gave the hosts a glimpse of hope in this matchup. A bundle of goals was still to come, Virginia made it 4-1, before Moorcroft and Jardim scored in the 61st and 62nd minute to make it 4-2, before Virginia Water’s two late goals sealed the points in a thrilling matchup on Tuesday night.

So, get yourself down to Yarnton Road this Saturday Afternoon, in what will be a blockbuster of a match-up between these two sides in the CCLPD North.
