This League game was played in heavy rain however both side made the best of it and certainly produced a good and entertaining match.
Julian McCalmon’s Kidlington squad was once again devastated by Injuries and unavailability and that’s not to mention that he had also had to contend with suspension to 3 of his key players.
The game itself got underway with the visitors making the initial running with Richard Paquette looking especially dangerous up front for them.
We had to wait till the 21st minute for the first goal and it was no real surprise that it came from ‘The Sarnies’, Kurtney Brooks was the provider of the chance and Jordan Berry the scorer. Brooks played the ball nicely inside to Berry and he shot firmly home from about 12 yards out, 1 – 0 to Egham.
Their lead didn’t last long as Kidlington were soon level. A nicely worked move up the right flank saw Anton Mundy provide a great pass up the centre of the field for Anaclet Odhiambo, the little man burst into the box and had his legs taken from under him by keeper James Norris. Penalty was the result and Odhiambo got up to take it himself, he struck it firmly and although the keeper got a hand to it he couldn’t prevent the goal, 1 – 1 after 25 minutes.
Kidlington were playing a lot better now and were rewarded for their endeavours when their very own ‘Little Magician’ Lewis Coyle smashed home a wonderful second goal. It was a Coylie special and came about after Anton Mundy fed Anaclet Odhiambo, Odhiambo played the ball into Coyle and he beat a defender before unleashing a dipping and swerving shot from 25 yards. Before you knew it the ball was nestling in the Egham net and Kidlington were 2 – 1 up on 36 minutes.
Just before the break Jack Dunmall was injured when his own keeper Sam Warrell came out to punch a corner clear. After lengthy treatment the synopsis looks to be a dislocated shoulder and for this he had to be taken to hospital….the injury jinks strikes again!
It was 1 – 1 at the break.
In the second half Egham put their foot on the gas whilst Kidlington were predominantly on the back foot. Kidlington were defending stoutly with Henry Owen and Mark Flanagan playing exceptionally well to keep the visitors at bay.
In the dying embers of the match Egham’s pressure eventually told after The Greens couldn’t clear a ball from inside their box after a corner kick. Substitute Chris Day getting in there and smashing it home for 1 – 1 in the 88th minute.
It was a little heart breaking for Kidlington as they had hung on bravely during this second half but in truth Egham deserved their goal and draw was probably a fairer result.
