Local rivals Kidlington FC and Ardley United FC met on Saturday in the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties Premier Division North, with the sides sitting sixth and seventh in the table. Kidlington entered the match on the back of a win and two draws from their last three games, while Ardley were returning after almost a month without a fixture due to the recent poor weather. The heavy pitch shaped much of the contest.
The first half was a stalemate. Clear chances were limited and neither goalkeeper was seriously troubled. Ardley came closest when a header struck the crossbar, while Kidlington edged both possession and the number of half‑chances created.
Shortly after the second half began, play was halted due to a medical emergency in the stand. Both physios attended to the supporter who had collapsed, and the match paused for around twenty minutes before resuming. (The following timings reflect the restart and not reported.)
Kidlington restarted with purpose and took the lead soon after. A set‑piece delivery into the box was met by Latham Hawkins, whose downward header in the 69th minute bounced up over the Ardley goalkeeper, clipped the crossbar and dropped into the net.
Kidlington looked to extend their advantage, but Ardley tightened up defensively and gradually grew into the half. From around the 80th minute Ardley applied sustained pressure, countering with increasing threat. Their persistence was rewarded when substitute Alfie Dunn equalised on 90 minutes, just four minutes after coming on, finishing a move that reflected Ardley’s growing momentum.
Ardley continued to press in the closing stages, enjoying the better of possession and territory, but Kidlington held firm. After a competitive and disrupted afternoon, the match finished level at 1–1.
