Our first team put in a sterling performance to beat Cinderford Town 4 - 1 this afternoon at Yarnton Road.....read on

Double delight for Jansey

In constant drizzle Kidlington put in a heart warning performance to brush aside a spirited Cinderford Town outfit.

The match was a fairly even affair in the 1st half with Mark Janes (pictured) netting with the only real chance for either side. Darius Browne crossed the ball in form the left and Janes raced onto it to head home in the 29th minute.

The second half started with Kidlington on the attack and Duran martin very nearly caught visiting keeper Joe Perry napping in the 49th minute. From a free kick Martin looked to sneak his shot in at the near post, however a desperate dive and a fingertip save prevented it.

Mark Janes made it 2- 0 in the 54th minute when he headed home a super cross from Tommy Castle. This goal although scored by Janes was all about Castle, Castle set about beating a defender before brilliantly picking out Janes at the far post, teeing the ball up, for him to head powerfully home for his second of the game.

At 2 - 0 Kidlington were cruising and playing some wonderful football along the way, especially considering the awful weather conditions.

Janes was substituted for Declan Benjamin on 67 minutes before Lance Williams netted for 3 - 0 on 74 minutes. Darius Brown picked out Williams with an excellent ball inside and Williams finished with some aplomb, firing his shot across goal and into the far corner.

Keeper Sam Warrell made an excellent save from Dan McDonald in the 76th minute to keep Kidlington's 3 goal lead intact, but he was beaten in the 84th minute. Joe Hunt was afforded far to much space in the middle of the park and from 25 yards hit a rasping dipping shot that even a fully extender Warrell could do nothing about, for 3 - 1.

Any hope of a surprise comeback was well and truly put to bed in the 87th minute when Mark Bell was upended in the Cinderford box. Duran Martin took the spot kick sending Perry the wrong way and it was 4 - 1.

That was indeed the final score and one that had seen Kidlington put in a totally committed team performance to take the 3 points. This match saw Kidlington in per-christmas form which is hopefully now recaptured as we move toward the sharp end of the season.
