A season of two halves.
A very disappointing start to the season, where we lost our opening game 2-1. From then until the middle of October we were struggling for numbers, even having to forfeit one match due to player availability. We played Bure Park on the 6th October and were heavily beaten 4-0. This became our turning point.
With Kidlington Youth Under 17's, who trained alongside us, deciding to fold, we were able to sign on three of their stronger players who seemed to breath a new lease of life into the dressing room. There was also a change in the management team, with Lee Jones stepping down and Adam Peck coming in as Assistant Manager to Simon Grossman.
One of the players bought in was centre back Owen Comley, which allowed us to move Ethan Merry to striker, this made an instant impact.
Since that defeat to Bure Park our lads have been unbeaten and reached the semi final of the League Cup beating Bure Park in the quarter finals 3-1 AET. We were due to play Abingdon Youth in the semi's but due to the virus this won’t happen, unfortunately.
Most impressively are the levels of performances playing a year up in the Under 18's Joe Roughton County Cup where we beat Summertown U18's, Carterton U18's and had a massive 2-1 win AET away to Clanfield U18's. We had a nerve racking semi final again against Bure Park (who by this point were our league winners), the team showing great spirit and desire to win the game 2-1. We were due to play against Oxford City U18's in the final, but again this has been halted by the virus.
Finally, the biggest achievement for us as a management team this season is having Ethan Merry, Archie Brew, Theo Williams, Jack Mepham and Jack Wilde all make the huge step up and represent our Development team in the Uhlsport Hellenic One East Division. Well done lads.....!
