Development win in the Cup

Development win 1-0 against Marlow United in the Floodlit Cup.

Kidlington’s development team had an excellent result on Tuesday night beating a strong Marlow United side 1-0 in the last 16 of the Banbury Litho Hellenic Floodlit Cup, reports Nick East.
Kidlington’s last success in this competition was twelve years ago in 2008 when it was won by the first team during their Hellenic League days.
The first half was a cagey affair with very little attacking threat posed by either side but in the second half it was a different story with the greens creating some very good openings. Callum Green nearly opened the scoring at the far post but his effort was saved by the goalkeeper. Marlow posed a threat mainly from a series of set pieces but Kidlington looked the more likely playing with a lot of speed and creativity. The only goal of the game came after 70 minutes and was scored by Tommy Castle who was getting some minutes with the development team after his return from suspension. This followed good work from Harry Williams and Callum Green.
The greens now move into the quarter finals of this prestigious Cup competition.
Kidlington were also delighted to introduce Academy player Ellis Matthews to the group, coming on as a second half substitute.
Next up for the Development is the league match against Wallingford Town on Saturday 11th January KO 3pm at Yarnton Road.

Team: Nick Lacey, Jack Quainton, Luke Quarterman, Declan Peart, Rob Johnson, Tom Moore, Tommy Castle, Stefan Neilsen, Harry Williams, Callum Green Jamar Smith. Subs Used, Richard Brooks, Kristian Thomas, Ellis Matthews.
