Kidlington bounced back from last Saturday's disappointing 3-2 loss to Lydney in the Challenge Cup with an emphatic 6-1 victory over ex Southern League side Thatcham Town.
Returning to the starting 11 for this match were central defender James McGowan, winger Tommy Castle and central midfielder Charles Cassettari and all scored on the night.
In comments after the game manager Martin Wilkinson said:
"I am delighted by the way the players reacted tonight because Saturday was a disappointing result for us all. Whether they started or not tonight, every player was magnificent. Most important is that we remain a good Team and that was the focus of tonight's performance and that was the essence of my pre-match team talk. We rely on every team member to contribute to the best of their abilities and tonight, everyone achieved that."
Recent weeks have seen managerial resignations at both Abingdon United and Wantage Town and Wilkinson was asked for his thoughts on both clubs:
"Any comment would be pure speculation, so I will refrain from offering my thoughts on other clubs. My focus is on Kidlington FC and this club is making significant strides both on and off the field. My job is to make sure the 1st Team continues to develop successfully and I am confident that is happening. The group of players I have at the club now is fast becoming one of the best groups of players around Oxfordshire and I hope that will continue. The challenge now is to win consistently at this level and work towards becoming consistently competitive at the next level."
Assistant Manager Paul Harwood will take charge of the game v Shrivenham as Wilkinson will be attending a FA Specialist Coaching Course at St George's Park. In final comments Wilkinson said:
"Attending St Georges Park is part of my continuing personal development and the weekend offers me an opportunity to learn new ideas and I will be discussing coaching matters with some of the best professional and semi-professional coaches in the country this weekend. My absence is also good for Paul's development. Saturday will be a good opportunity for Paul to get his own message across to the players and he is more than capable of that. I expect nothing to change in spite of my absence on Saturday."
